Why are the countries who had/have monarchies considered the most stable?

you could easily argue the other way - Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Thailand all have monarchies. however, western democracies with monarchies are, as you say, generally the most stable - UK, Norway, Holland. it may be because these countries are "old nations", in which there is a lot of history and tradition - creates a stable nation through experience.
